General eligibility. High school graduation is one requirement for enlisted personnel who are between 17 and 35 years of age . Recruiters can explain eligibility differences based on what training and assignments match the applicant’s interests. Applicants are sent to a Military Entrance Processing Station for a physical examination. They then take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery . The results of these determine basic eligibility and training program qualifications.

Training. Recruits go to basic training to gain physical conditioning and essential knowledge and skills. Recruits are trained by other enlisted personnel in groups of 35 to 80. Daily routines are rigorous. Most days start at 5 a.m. and last until 9 p.m. and include classes, meals, athletics, and field training. Little free time is available and travel is limited. Vacation time is not authorized until the recruit has completed basic training and enters advanced training.

Armed Security Guard Companies

If you are on the fence regarding how or where to serve your country, please read.

I am debating where to serve? Firefighting EMT, Police SWAT or Military Special Ops. I know you write about all of them – do you have any advice on what you\’d recommend? I am trying to do a workout that would help prepare me for all of them as I have about a year before I need to make my decision.

Whew. This is a big question but a great one. You cannot go wrong with any of your choices, but let’s break it up into two major groups, with several sub groups in order to see how people can find elements of these service professions that appeal to them.

First, the community services you asked about were firefighters, EMTs and police SWAT teams. These groups may differ from town to town, so researching a city or state has to be done to determine the physical fitness entrance standards as well as other requirements and benefits.

Emergency Medicine

To make the decision to serve as a firefighter/EMT, you should consider your desire to learn about emergency medicine. You actually can be both a firefighter and an EMT — or an EMT only. Both are physically demanding and require academic study however, the firefighter profession is much more so and involves very hot temperatures. Also, running into a burning building to save another person requires a type of bravery that not many people have.

Patriotism Defending Our Nation And A Sense Of Duty

Military service is a time-honored way to serve others first. Walter Reuther is quoted as saying,

There is no greater calling than to serve your fellow men. There is no greater contribution than to help the weak. There is no greater satisfaction than to have done it well. .

Best Jobs For Transitioning Military Officers

To find the best jobs for transitioning military officers, and which job will be best for you, start by looking at your resume.

In todays high tech society, many companies have several steps when it comes to reviewing resumes.

Having a clear understanding of each companys selection process is critical.

Will your resume first be viewed by an individual in Human Resources, the hiring manager, a team of individuals, or electronically?

Your best bet for having your resume read by a hiring manager is to cater each resume you send to the specific job posting. Your goal is to translate military-speak into words that would show your value to a civilian employer.

Most civilians have zero knowledge when it comes to military acronyms, so if you use any in your resume, be sure to use the full technical name and put the acronym in parentheses.

Try your best to add buzzwords into your resume, or include specific words that were called for in the job listing.

Now that you have crafted a great resume, you can begin the search and application process.
