My Career Advancement Account (MyCAA) Scholarship Program

If you fail a course , go to your MyCAA Spouse Portal and request a grade waiver, such as a Forgiveness Waiver or a Hardship Waiver. Schools are not generally involved in the process for a grade waiver.

If you fail a second course, your account will be permanently locked, and no further MyCAA funding will be available to you.

    Who Is Eligible For Mycaa Benefits

    Spouses of service members on active duty in pay grades E-1 to E-5, W-1 to W-2, and O-1 to O-2 who can start and complete their coursework while their military sponsor is on Title 10 military orders, including spouses married to members of the National Guard and Reserve Components in these same pay grades.

    Mycaa Approved Career Fields

    Use the MySECO Research Occupations Tool to find in-demand, portable careers in your area or nationwide.

    The following career fields have been approved for MyCAA funding:

    • Information Technology
    • Skilled Trades: In-demand jobs that require certification or other credentials and provide the flexibility necessary for military spouses frequent relocations. Use the MySECO Research Occupations Tool to find in-demand professions in your area or nationwide. The following are approved skilled trades for the MyCAA program. Each program already has approved technical schools and more are being routinely added.
    • Aesthetician or Skin Care Specialist
    • Mortuary Science
    • Translator/Interpreter
    • Other training programs listed in the MyCAA approved programs

    Note: all career field and skilled trade programs have different additional criteria. Dont be afraid to ask questions of your career coach or Employment Readiness staff.

    Who Is Eligible For Mycaa Financial Assistance

    Mycaa Career Advancement Accounts Program

    Spouses of active-duty, National Guard, Coast Guard or reserve service members in certain pay grades are eligible for MyCAA benefits. You must submit your request while your spouse is on Title 10 military orders. You remain eligible if your spouse is promoted above O-2 if you have an approved education plan in place prior to the promotion.

    Spouses must have completed high school or obtained a GED and must complete their program of study within three years from the start date.

    Current employment does not affect your eligibility.

    You may still be eligible for Spouse Education and Career Opportunities services, even if you do not qualify for the MyCAA financial assistance.

    Eligible spouses can establish a free MyCAA Account by visiting the MyCAA website. Eligible spouses will be allowed to create their Career and Training Plan and request FA when they are within 30 days of course start dates. Additionally, spouses are responsible for applying to their selected school or program and enrolling in each course included in their approved MyCAA Career and Training Plan.

    Can I Use Mycaa If I Already Have A Degree

    CLEP MyCAA Exams for Military Spouses (Jan 2022)

    MyCAA does not cover bachelors, masters, or doctorate degrees, so you could not use it to continue in the same line of education you have already completed. But a course being taken for a masters degree or doctorate may be covered if the course earns a credential necessary for employment.

    If you already have a degree and are not using it, or if you are looking to change your career into a field of research and study that is covered by MyCAA, you may qualify for the scholarship.

    Can I Use Mycaa And The Gi Bill

    Yes. Your spouse can transfer Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits to you, and you can use them with MyCAA funding. The MyCAA scholarship funds are only allowed to be used on tuition costs, and you will not receive a refund on any MyCAA funds that were not used, so use MyCAA funds for tuition before using GI Bill funds on tuition.

    How Do I Get Started With Mycaa

    The first step to accessing your MyCAA scholarship is to confirm that you are eligible. Make sure your spouse is on active duty and in the correct pay grades. If your spouse is not on active duty, not under Title 10 military orders, or is not in the correct pay grade, you will not be able to access a MyCAA scholarship.

    Once you have determined that you are eligible, the best way to get started with MyCAA is to go to the Military One Source website. When you apply for MyCAA funding, you will need your Department of Defense Self-Service Logon information. Logon is the same process that you use to access other services online like TRICARE or MySECO.

    Once you are logged in, your application process can begin, and you can get started with MyCAA. As a reminder, MyCAA does not reimburse or cover courses that are not approved.
