Ftc: Stratford Career Institute Is Peddling Worthless High School Diplomas

The Federal Trade Commission has accused the Stratford Career Institute of fleecing thousands of students looking for a better life by charging them as much as $989 for a worthless high school diploma. The complaint, authorized by the commission in a 4-0 vote, accuses the Montreal, Canada, headquartered institute of heavily advertising that its diploma program could open to the doors to a better job, higher earnings, and promotions. This despite the fact that Stratford is not accredited and that its program fails to meet minimum educational requirements in most states. Stratford promised that its high school program could help students get better jobs and access higher education, Jessica Rich, director of the FTCs Bureau of Consumer Protection, said in the release announcing the complaint. For many students, those promises were false because schools and employers rejected Stratfords supposed diploma. According to the complaint:Stratfords most popular program is its high school diploma program .
The Stratford program is specifically designed to present or expand the theoretical knowledge required for professional practice in a particular subject. The Stratford Program is designed to help individuals continue their vocational education and is not intended to change licensing or certification requirements, which may include additional education or training required by law.

Ftc Announces Refund Program For Stratford Career Institute Students
The Federal Trade Commission has announced that Stratford Career Institute agreed to settle a lawsuit over allegations it misled consumers about its high school program.
As part of this FTC settlement, Stratford will pay $250,000 to provide partial refunds to graduates and current students who enrolled in the high school program after Jan. 1, 2011.
The FTC filed a lawsuit against Stratford nearly a year ago, claiming Stratford engaged in misleading advertising of its high school program.
According to the FTC, Stratfords advertising misled consumers into thinking a diploma from its high school program would be as effective as a traditional high school diploma at helping them further their education and get a job upon graduation.
Stratford allegedly advertised its high school equivalency program through online ads, letters, brochures, television commercials and in magazines. These advertisements reportedly claimed that its never too late to get your diploma.
Stratford also reportedly purchased online advertising tied to certain search terms, including official high school diploma, high school equivalency diploma, and real high school diploma online.
According to the Stratford lawsuit, students paid as much as $989 for enrollment in the program, which in many cases took more than two years to complete.
Graduates of Stratford do not need to take any action at this time in order to be eligible for a refund.

Charged When I Didn’t Take The Classes
I had asked about the counseling course they had offered. They sent. me the information on the course. The literature was A joke. They sent me three Paperback manuals, if you could call them that. I called and said I have changed my mind and would send the literature back. They said that would be fine. I later was billed $639 dollars. I have refused to pay this bill and it is now on my credit report. Reading all the complaints why not come together with A class action suit for fraud. If interested Email me at @yahoo.com.

This Is The Biggest Joke
This is the biggest joke , They locked me out of my classes after paying the second monthly payment for over 8 weeks. I could not get into my account to complete the so called coursework . Then sent me to collections for not paying for a school I could not get into . They were rude when I called and lets say not the brightest star in the sky. You would be better off doing research on line and creating your own courses and degree . I got into CFSU after my encounter with this school and let me tell you theres a big difference in a going to school to say you know something and going to actually learn something . This isn’t worth your time ,nor does it look good on a resume. Just saying.

This School Is A Sham In My Oponion
This school is a sham in my oponion. I was not encouraged at all to pursue this institute. Just talking to the woman who answers the phone, she was rude and not forth coming with specific questions I had. I felt she was hiding the fact they probably have no bang for the buck they want from you… I asked to talk to someone in admissions about the course outline she kept saying go online I told her I did and I had further questions and she said sorry there was no one to talk to except her, with that I was done.She then actually laughed and hung up on me I couldn’t believe it anybody can print brochures and make a website but after you’ve sent them hundreds of dollars to start a program they could simply not give you good content and you are out all the money this is one of those places I believe so stay clear away.
