With certifications, you can get an initial education in a field and then move on to more advanced training that will help you deepen your knowledge or expand what you offer.
For example, you might earn a nutrition and wellness consultant certification and then jump up to a master-level certification as you begin to counsel clients. Or you could incorporate several fields together. For instance, you could earn a personal trainer certification and then go after a weight loss specialist certification if you find that many of your clients are struggling with weight issues. You can also specialize in certain populations, such as youth or seniors.
The more certifications you earn in the field, the greater your knowledge base will be and the more specialized opportunities you will find.

Thoughts From An Iawp Graduate
I chose to become a Holistic Wellness Coach as I always felt this role best matched my value system and what I stand for. My training is in the field of School Psychology and I always saw myself as a guide and coach to my students and parents versus the typical psychologist/counselor role.
I was less into analyzing a person and their past and more focused on their present concern and looking at ways to best support them in achieving their present goals. I have always seen the whole person, not just a piece of them or their challenge but their whole selves.
Guiding someone to become their best versions of themselves physically, socially and emotionally is why I love being a holistic wellness coach. It is a role that can bring a tremendous amount of empowerment to others and at the same time instill optimism, joy and a sense of fulfillment. What could be better?

What Is Health Coaching
While the majority of wellness professionals focus on large-scale program planning, some roles may incorporate health coaching. Supplementing your wellness program management skills with a knowledge of health coaching practices can be beneficial depending on your career goals.
According to the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching, health and wellness coaches partner with clients seeking to enhance their well-being through self-directed, lasting changes, aligned with their values. The National Society of Health Coaches describes health coaching as the use of evidence-based skillful conversation, clinical strategies and interventions to actively and safely engage clients in health behavior change to better self-manage their health, health risk, and acute and chronic conditions resulting in optimal wellness, lowered health risk, improved health outcomes and decreased health costs.
Because wellness program management often doesnt allow the time or capacity to focus on one-on-one relationships, as well as program implementation, employers may split the roles into two separate areas of focus. Expanding your wellness skills to include knowledge of health coaching practices can give you a competitive edge in your career, increase opportunities, and enhance your abilities as a wellness professional.

Career Paths You Can Choose In Health And Wellness

The COVID-19 pandemic revealed two positive things, at least for healthcare workers:
Firstly, healthcare professionals play a critical role and have one of the most stable and consistent careers.
Secondly, the pandemic also revealed that immunocompromised people and people with chronic disease and comorbidities were at a higher risk of being infected with COVID-19 than those without major health issues.
The last one and a half years have revealed that the healthcare industry is extremely stable, and demand for healthcare professionals continues to increase no matter the countrys economic or political situation. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, health education and community jobs are projected to grow by 11% from 2018 to 2028.
That said, its still important to acquire the necessary academic and practical qualifications to become a healthcare worker. At the very least, a college diploma or a university degree in the health sciences is a must for a career in health. The same applies to the wellness industry. Most programs in wellness and health run for 3-4 years and include courses in the basic sciences, fitness, health, nutrition, and diseases.
Healthcare professionals can either choose to pursue their solo practice, join a group of other health workers, join a government health agency, work for a hospital, undertake research, and/or advise or work for pharmaceutical companies.
