The GDOL only accepts online submissions to our job vacancies on the Team Georgia Careers website. When applying for our vacancies on TGC, please provide a complete, detailed description of your training and work experience be as specific as possible the reviewer cannot assume any information that is not fully described on the application. Once your submission is received, it will be evaluated to determine if the minimum employment qualifications for the position for which you are applying have been met. ‘we Haven’t Had A Day Off’
Labor Commissioner Mark Butler objected to the suggestion that keeping the doors closed to the public is a waste of taxpayer money because employees still work from there answering phones and handling claims.
We utilize those centers fully, with our employees working, helping Georgians seven days a week, he said. We havent had a day off, and we havent basically been closed since this began. We have been working constantly. None of my folks went home when the pandemic started. Nobody has worked harder in the state of Georgia than the men and women of the Georgia Department of Labor for the last 16 months.
All of his staff members who worked in reemployment at the centers have been temporarily reassigned to help handle the influx of claims since the pandemic began in March 2020, he said.
Butler expressed frustration that some believe they could solve problems with their claims if the centers were open, when in reality, the centers were used exclusively for things like reemployment training before the pandemic. Other services like eligibility reviews and appeals have been done over the phone for years, he said.
They think that they can show up at the career center, theyve been told by their state , or their state senator in some cases, If you could just get in here, you could get your case heard, and thats not true, Butler said.
Department spokeswoman Kersha Cartwright said resuming career center operations will be a gradual process.

How Do I Get My Georgia Unemployment Benefit Payments

The duty and responsibility of career centers is to work directly with workers that are seeking training, seeking opportunity, seeking answers to questions, she said. Without those doors being open and constantly getting recordings and not getting callbacks, workers are at their wits end. It is frustrating. You want me to go back, but you want me to go back for less.
Those who want that kind of assistance should instead reach out to WorkSource Georgia, a service of the Technical College System of Georgia, Butler said.
Thats not handled in Georgia Department of Labor and hasnt been for six years, Butler said. That is WorkSource, Georgia, so you need to contact one of those offices and see if theyre open. Thats where somebody can get money, training money, to where they have their training paid for. Thats handled by the Technical College System of Georgia. They moved that out from the Department of Labor back in the Nathan Deal administration.

Ga Department Of Labor Working To Safely Reopen Career Centers
SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Labor says theyve been working hard on a plan to safely reopen the career centers for in-person services across the state. For the first time since the pandemic began they are now working to schedule in-person appointments.
Throughout the pandemic, the Georgia Department of Labor provided services virtually. Now, career centers across the state are working on scheduling in-person appointments at their sites based on personnel availability and security.
This is on a rolling basis. We dont have any specific dates for each one. Eventually across the state well have them all open to in-person appointments, said Lori Frazier Bearden, Deputy Commissioner of Economic and Workforce Development for the GDOL.

During the pandemic we had a lot of people no longer working for us. Because of the work shortage it makes it a lot more difficult for us just to open the doors wide open and people be able to come in and get the services they need.
We can do it safely. We can ensure the safety of not only our customers but we can ensure the safety of our staff. If you have a whole bunch of people showing up all at one time and youre not able to serve them directly that can cause some issues.
